A couple of decades ago, my friend Joseph, who’s an amazing photographer, had me do the hair and makeup for a studio shoot. This is a post of many firsts (TONGUE-TWISTAHHHH). First E.L.F. review, concealer review, highlighter review, and the debut of my new, totally legit watermark! I have Franny of No Bees, No Honey to thank for this protection against the image thieves I will forever insist exist. Holy crap, I’m all about the tongue-twisters tonight, aren’t I?

Anyway, today we are discussing an E.L.F. concealer/highlighter duo. I always tell people that concealer is something one absolutely must invest in. They are notorious for caking up and slipping off, and if you want the stuff to stay on, then you’re going to have to cough up the gold.

It’s not that I deliberately avoided drugstore concealers; it’s just that I hadn’t found one that performed as well as I would have liked. Noticed the tenses? Well, you should’ve paid attention, bitchez, because coverage elitism ends like, now.

See? I’m not a brand snob.

This look was very easy and simple as I had no plans of spending more than two hours wearing it. I decided to go to Fete dela Musique on the drive home and ended up wearing my makeup the entire night. To my surprise, the eye liner wore amazingly, even with the humidity and the horrific dancing I did. There was still a little bit of smudging, but truth be told, that could have also been due to the non-waterproof mascara I was wearing.

I have no pictures at the festival. This is purely self-indulgence.

Friday night, my friend Aleli got a new tattoo. Naturally, we went there to document the event. And meddle.

The night was very Paris. Slumdog Paris.

So I went to my first free makeup workshop last week. It was held at Weddings and Beyond, Level 4, Rustan’s Makati. I was hoping for freebies, but that didn’t really happen. Instead, I ended up buying more stuff than I could afford because I wanted the free makeup kit.

The workshop itself wasn’t really all that great, in my opinion. The makeup artist they hired to hold the workshop, fabulous though she was, worked for a different company and didn’t seem to know much about the products. Neither did the actual Nars people, actually. The one look taught to us wasn’t very exciting either- nothing you couldn’t learn from a two-minute YouTube tutorial. I kind of felt like they were trying to sell us stuff more than they genuinely wanted to educate. Of course, sales and profit are inevitably the targeted result, but I would’ve appreciated just a little bit more subtlety in the form of ACTUAL information. As it was, I just kind of felt like they just held the workshop so they could pretend that they cared about their customers. I wouldn’t have minded that if they had been just a little less obvious.

However, the Nars representatives were very friendly, and I feel that I actually got a good deal out of my splurge.
